Mr Fogg's Cocktail Bar Review

Mr Fogg's Cocktail Bar Review

When I first saw "The wizard of Oz", I couldn't think of anything worse than it being all in black and white so thank goodness it changes to techni-absolutely glorious-colour and got all eccentric and stuff.  Going to Mr Fogg's recreated a similar feeling (and I could definitely do with investing in some kick-ass red heels).

That's because Mr Fogg's is down the most unassuming street in Mayfair.  It was the kind of road I should have been driving a truck down delivering hand towels or something of equally banal nature.  We only knew we were in the right area when there was actually a queue of well dressed people (and not truckers) outside the door (waiting to open at the quirky time of 5:01pm).

Once inside, it was the Dorothy entering Oz, Alice falling down the rabbit hole and Nick entering the Gatsby party moment all rolled into one...and the boring street is something completely forgotten.

The decor was Jumanji meets Victoriana meets crazy old man who used to hunt tigers in In-ja! and now relives his glory days on an on-going basis to anyone who will listen.  There were penny farthings suspended from the ceiling.  There was a freakin hot air balloon in the corner.  A globe was carried out by the bartenders to reveal drinks inside.

The Blue Bottle was like a kid's drink.  The foam was like those shrimpy sweets and really delicious before getting to the liquorice smelling and tasting drink.  Considering the absinthe, I was expecting it to be really potent but was happily drinking it.

There was no discussion is second guessing ordering The Henrietta (other than it seemed like a safe bet) because ginger beer is fast becoming a fave of mine in cocktails.  Whilst it was very nice to drink, I did expect it to be more fiery considering it had fresh ginger and ginger beer but it was only a tinge of ginge.

Mr Fogg's I think is great for everyone.  We had couples coming there with their parents (if the bf was impressing the gf's parents then he had definitely succeeded).  There were unsupervised couples (how glorious if you were taken here on a first date).  There were groups of guys and of course great for groups of girls too.  What a wonderful venue for early cocktails after a lovely day in London - ah before I forget!  See what I got up to that morning.

I'm just waiting for the hammering demand for PCC merchandise now ;-)
