Cocktails at Mildreds Soho

Cocktails at Mildreds Soho

My friend sent me a message recently along the lines of "In Soho at the moment.  Where's good to eat?".  WTF.  That is far too vague for me.  It would be the same as me messaging someone "I'm in France at the moment.  Where's good to eat?"  Despite being overwhelmed with the brevity of the message, I did recommend Mildred's, a place I went to recently.

Mildreds is a vegetarian restaurant, suggested by my super stylish sister Hanhabelle (check out her beautifully shot and written blog) because we were around Soho and needed to find somewhere vegetarian friendly for my other sister.  So the plan was to eat but you have to walk RIGHT PAST the bar to get to the restaurant plus there was a wait (no bookings allowed) at the bar so the stars were aligned and I had a little cocktail first.

This is a Turkish Rose.  With gin, campari, rose and almond syrup and pineapple, it was definitely like a liquid version of a turkish delight.  The sun was out, people were spilling onto the streets and it had that lovely early evening vibe.  This is definitely the kind of drink you have when life is good.

I wasn't particularly hungry yet seemed to end up ordering a 3 course meal ("oooh they have halloumi!!!").  That is what Mildred's does to you; turn you into a greedy yet indecisive pig.  I was poring over the menu like a starved animal wanting to eat everything and hating Mildred's for making me want to eat everything.

This is the best burrito I have had in my entire life...and that's including the ones with meat.  It was just so incredibly tasty.  I will happily have vegetarian burritos forever amen if they taste as good as Mildred's.

By this point, I was full.  I was wearing a skirt but my metaphorical top trouser button was undone.  But they had bread and butter pudding.  Oh well, different part of the stomach I suppose.  Actually I totally couldn't finish it.  Nearly cried with disappointment at my stupid full stomach.

Mildreds is what I would class as typically Soho.  It's effortlessly cool - so instantly I felt uncool in my outfit.  I just can't do the Olivia Palermo or London hipster thing despite fawning over photos on Pinterest.  Anyway this by no means makes it pretentious.  A cosy place that was filled with light and lots of people and chatting helped this super atmosphere.  Hence my recommendation to my friend.  Although she ended up in Wagamamas...I'm saying nothing.
