The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town Cocktail Bar Review

The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town Cocktail Bar Review

As with all English people, I respect the queue. The queue reduces the likelihood of glares and (at the very least) violence by 46%*. However I'm not fond of a "hype queue" - a queue commonly formed around hipster / latest hype venues. This is why I still haven't been to Meat Liquor and The Breakfast Club. This was also the case for The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town but as we were around the area Saturday afternoon, I was finally able to step through the SMEG fridge.

I only knew 2 things about The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town

1. It's an underground speakeasy where you walk through a SMEG fridge to get to the entrance. I think we were suppose to say a certain sentence. However I found that "is there room for 2 people to have a drink?" perfectly suffice
2. They make badass cocktails

Which to be honest is enough information. The Breakfast Club itself is very light and bright and has a nice family feel and the SMEG fridge fits right in but I was glad it was serving another purpose rather than keeping perishable goods fresh.

Downstairs the decor was part ship (the porthole looking into the toilet was weird. Me going in and seeing a man coming out even weirder), part retro Americana, part 1920's mobster joint, part eccentric English. part everything. Personally I was a little confused about what it was about. But maybe it's not really anything to "get". Maybe I should be quiet, not indulge in heavy petting and enjoy the drinks.

I usually order a lychee or passionfruit based drink but I tried the peat-nut butter cup which upon reflection sounds a little grubby but the peanut butter element was too interesting to pass up. I'm also not fond generally of Bailey type drinks let alone bourbon but I really enjoyed it; it was sweet but not the fruity or sickly sweet.

A fun place to stop at if you happen to be in the area. Not a dress up place. Get yourself a bar seat and watch the guys make magic.
